I might have guessed…

Curious about Agent 007, old boy? So be it. He has been rather busy since the events of GOLDENEYE, yet Janus has kept plenty of tabs on him around the globe. Your codes seem to be in order and you again may proceed.

This is what we have for our subject, thirty years removed from his GOLDENEYE appearance:

TREVELYAN:

According to the data compiled on this mainframe, our very own Mr. James Bond has been quite a busy man since stomping around the Cuban jungle exactly thirty years ago. After Mischa was destroyed (complements of Double-O Seven himself), Mr. Pierce Brosnan has since reached many more career heights, meeting and surpassing the expectations of his fans to this day.

Now then, let’s get into this, shall we?

Brief backstory notes suggest that Pierce Brosnan was born in Ireland and attended the Drama Centre in London for a handful of years to develop an early stage presence. After about ten years dabbling in stage and screen, further honing his craft, Brosnan would land his break-0ut role. On British television, Brosnan would emerge in 1982' REMINGTON STEELE as the series' title character, Remington Steele. The series would run until 1987, with Brosnan gaining a large amount of popularity very quickly.

Heads would really turn for Brosnan when he appeared in the 1987 film, THE FOURTH PROTOCOL, the British Cold War / Spy film based on the novel of the same name, written by Frederick Forsyth. Starring across from Michael Caine, playing MI5's Agent John Preston, Brosnan would become KGB Agent Major Valeri Alekseyevich Petrofsky. The film would go on to double its budget at the box office, but more importantly, it would mark Pierce Brosnan's first major feature film role.

A few films and commercials later, and EON Productions came knocking. The series was in need of a refresh. Reimagined action, a fresh story, and a new actor were all on the horizon for James Bond in film. For the actor, producers had only one man in mind... who they had narrowly missed before. Yet, by this time in 1994, all the stars had properly aligned.

It was well time Brosnan became Bond.

In June of 1994, the world would meet their new Bond when EON Production announced Brosnan as their next 007. GOLDENEYE was released world-wide during the holiday season of 1995 and would go on to be one of the most celebrated, successful James Bond films of all time. Pierce Brosnan had arrived on the world's stage as a major actor with abilities in action, drama, and a little tongue-in-cheek comedy. Skills worth their weight in hollywood gold.

Which brings us up to speed. No need to cover what Bond was able to get done in GOLDENEYE...

We'll just skip that, shall we?

Of course, three more Bond escapades would unfold following GOLDENEYE including, TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997), THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999), and DIE ANOTHER DAY (2002). After an explosive performance in all four, Brosnan left Bond behind with a slightly sour taste in his mouth. Having something to prove to Bond producers and the film industry as a whole, Brosnan moved on from Bond and continued to grow his presence and further develop his approach to the silver screen in fresh, new ways.

See files pertaining to those individual Bond films separately.

Plenty to dig into there. Another time, perhaps?

With Bond in Brosnan's rearview, this file picks back up with him becoming Julian Noble, the main character of the 2005 motion picture, THE MATADOR. This lead role would earn our Bond a handful of award nominations, spanning from the Golden Globe Awards to the Irish Film & Television Awards, among others. The film would garner a fan-base of its own and rightfully so, or so I’ve been told...

Our file suggests that his next large outing would arrive in 2008, with MAMMA MIA! hitting theatres in mid-July of that year. Adapted from the West-End/Broadway Musical of the same name, MAMMA MIA! showed fans a different side of Pierce Brosnan and his performing skill. With his familiar, signature charm, Brosnan did quite well! He played the possible-father role, a complex character named Sam Carmichael. Though Pierce Brosnan was questioned (and slightly teased) for his acceptance of this musical role early on, he gave a most memorable performance just the same.

Again, so I have heard.

Data entries pick back up with THE GHOST WRITER, dropping in February of 2010. As Adam Lang, Brosnan would again rack up the award nominations that year and give another gripping, on-screen performance. He seems to collect them, no?

By 2014, Brosnan would embark on crafting a character for an action film that would nearly rival his days within the Double-0 Section of MI6. As retired agent Peter Devereaux, Pierce Brosnan would channel his inner agent from years passed. THE NOVEMBER MAN would serve as a platform for Pierce Brosnan to give a most notable performance, reminiscent of his first outing as James Bond in the cold world of espionage. This section ends with a note of, “See that movie, GOLDENEYE fans”. Bizzare.

That said, THE NOVEMBER MAN seemed to open the door for a proper return-to-form in action thriller space, as Brosnan took on 2015's SURVIVOR and re-joined GOLDENEYE director, Martin Campbell, for the 2017 film THE FOREIGNER. The mid-to-late 2010s were a good years to be a Pierce Brosnan fan, as his career reemerged into the forefront of film.

ree

Speaking of returns, 2018 also marked his return to the MAMMA MIA! franchise, with the series' most recent installment, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN. Once again, he would transform into stepfather Sam Carmichael for this musical romance sequel. The film would go on to make over $400 million USD during its run, a financial smash success on top of a box office hit.

A few more film and television appearances started Brosnan's 2020s. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic reaching across borders and industries, notes definitely slow here. Thus, bringing us to our most recent collection of intelligence.

Surely, no mainframe has been compiled even remotely as efficiently, but I digress!

Let’s push ahead. Bits and pieces here and there…

Pierce Brosnan would return to the blockbuster scene, when he starred in 2022's BLACK ADAM. Succumbing to the 'safe bet' superhero film genre, Brosnan would enter the extended DC Comics film universe. As Kent Nelson, AKA the clairvoyant Doctor Fate, he is an early ally of the title character. Though his role in the film is relatively minor, Brosnan lended all the credibility to the character he could muster. As the world continued to tire of superhero films, BLACK ADAM broke slightly over even and wasn't particularly favored by critics.

From there, Brosnan has explored role options within the ever-expanding world of streaming, including works with Amazon, Paramount+, and Netflix. Most notably, as recently as this year. MOBLAND is noted here as one of Brosnan's most recent endeavours in British television featured on Paramount+, premiering in March of 2025. The series stars Tom Hardy as a fixer for the notorious Harrigan crime family, headed by Brosnan's character, Conrad.

Also this year, Netflix released THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB in August of 2025. Directed by Chris Columbus, Pierce Brosnan plays a retired-union-leader-turned-amatuer-sleuth, Ron Ritchie, one of the film's main characters. The Netflix exclusive has since received generally positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.

There seems to be a healthy bunch of side notes collected in this file that perhaps I should relay,

as they pertain to the subject quite heavily.

In December 1997, Brosnan received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his significant contributions to the film industry, most notably for his portayal of James Bond, Agent 007.

From 1997 to 2000, Pierce Brosnan worked with organizations such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) for several joint ecological causes. Also noted is the fact that Brosnan has been an ambassador for UNICEF Ireland since the launch of the "Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS" Campaign in 2001.

Several links to Greenpeace are also listed. Skills honed since GOLDENEYE include painting, public service, and advisement, all in the name of charity and the earth’s overall health.

Pierce Brosnan is also currently the most portrayed version of James Bond in video game form, playing Agent 007 in seven video games from 1997 to 2004. His first foray in video games? Use of his likeness in a little game called GOLDENEYE... perhaps you've heard of it?

In 2003, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II dubbed Pierce Brosnan an Honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his outstanding contributions to the British film and television industries.

It is noted here that Brosnan also gained United States citizenship in 2004, but retains his Irish citizenship and still very much considers himself an Irishman.

Lastly, Brosnan has married twice, was widowed once, and has five children and four grandchildren as of latest intel.

In short, your hunch is right. Our Bond has spied, shot, and even sung his way rather far from the world of Bond. Despite great adversities (childhood poverty, losing his late first wife and adopted daughter both to ovarian cancer, a significant and expensive house fire, etc.), Pierce Brosnan has become quite the role-model human being.

Bond’s path has grown and changed quite rapidly in his thirty years away. Since GOLDENEYE, Pierce Brosnan has become a film producer, decorated actor, television star, entrepreneur, charitable donor, environmentalist, humanitarian, icon, and (most importantly) a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

However, no matter the lengths he has travelled or strides he has made in the past thirty years, Pierce Brosnan will always be our James Bond, 007.

That’s about the long of it, old boy. No gratitude necessary.

It was the least I could do for a “friend”…
